Are you looking for a dog as a pet? Do you want a new puppy or an adult dog?
No matter what you may choose, many things need to be considered. People today also have many choices when it comes to what kind of dog they will choose as a pet.
Starting out with do you want a small dog or a large dog inside the house? Do I want a dog that is registered or one from a shelter? Will I have the time, the space, and the needed funds to properly take care of this dog? Will you have allergies problems, dog hair in the house, small children to be concerned with, or a lifestyle that will be changed?
Let us assume you have made your decision to get a new puppy of a small breed such as a Yorkshire. The many things to look at with a puppy may be a huge challenge to some people. They have to be potty trained, not allowed to chew on things, and to obey your directions. This of course will require lots of your time and patients to complete the task.
One way I have seen done to help potty train a young puppy was to attach a small bell to the door handle used to let them out to due their thing. Ring this small bell every time you take them out. A smart dog will soon start ringing the bell to get your attention when it needs out. Beware of when they get older and wiser they will use this as an attention getter also.
People that are more mature may select a dog that is older and well trained. They may become very attached to these dogs as a companion. In many cases I fell it helps widows and widowers to feel a sense of security.
Dogs can be a great addition to the family in many ways. They have smell senses that are super high compared to ours. This I am sure has saved peoples life in house fires. Some breeds can be great watch dogs, and others your best friend, and still others guide or rescue dogs.
